Year 4 pupils are taking part in a chess project organised by the AEFE between schools not only in the UK, but also in Northern Europe. The aim of the project is not only to foster relationships between the children, but also to highlight and develop the many skills that chess develops in children such as strategy, teamwork and creativity.
Year 4 pupils spent the first period concentrating on opening games and the second period practising. For those who had no knowledge of chess, this was not a problem. A student tutor was assigned to each pair. During the third period, they will time themselves. In the fourth period, we'll start competing against AEFE schools in the UK and, in the fifth period, against schools in Europe.
