The school year has been rich in literary discoveries this year for our Year 7s. In addition to the great challenges that they have all successfully met, they have traversed all genres, read several hundred beautiful pages and had many opportunities to express their creativity. In addition to the texts covered in the programme, they had the opportunity to work on a genre that is a bit different, that of the comic strip.
This year, our students were all able to participate in the national school comic book competition of Angoulême. During the year, they worked individually on a theme and a subject of their choice, through the creation of a comic strip. To carry out this project, various workshops were offered: first in class with their French teachers, Mrs Marigny and Mrs Boin, and then in the library with the invaluable assistance of Mrs Hamm, the teacher in charge of documentation. From the choice of a theme to the creation of the characters, from the construction of the story (the famous storyboard) to the writing of the speech bubbles, our students put all their efforts into creating a comic book that reflects their vision.
In March, they also had the opportunity to meet Alex-Imé, whom they interviewed during a video conference. A talented author and illustrator, she accompanied them in their project by sharing her best advice and sharing some of her techniques with them. They were even able to do some sketches and get personalised feedback on their work during these workshops, via a padlet created especially for them. Inspired and full of ideas, our students were then able to work on the illustration of their comic strip.
At the end of this work, it was time to hand in their drawings to their teachers. We were very proud to see the meticulous work that some of them had done. Many creations were selected and sent to the competition jury.
The project was a great success as the jury awarded all our selected pupils. A few months later, we had the great pleasure of seeing our pupils' compositions come back. Each of them was awarded a participation prize. One of our pupils, Margalit Amar, Year 7C, distinguished herself by receiving the "Petit fauve de bronze", a 3rd Prize for a national school competition! The non-selected pupils all received a special participation prize from CFBL.
We couldn't let the opportunity pass to congratulate our students for their work. On Monday 27 June, a prize-giving ceremony was held for all Year 7 students in the main hall of the CFBL. To share this moment, Mr Gassian, Mrs Denais, Mrs Boin, Mrs Marigny and Mrs Hamm were present to congratulate them. Impatient to discover the results, our apprentice comic book writers took turns to shine! Each of them was warmly applauded and enjoyed a moment of glory, that of the recognition of the artist in each of us!
A big congratulations to all our students in year 7!
