As the year comes to a close, we are excited to share the highlights of this first term and give you a glimpse into the exciting events we have planned for the next term.
Food Education: Shaping Healthy Habits
We believe that early food experiences play a crucial role in shaping lifelong eating habits. By introducing a variety of nutritious foods at a young age, we aim to encourage healthy eating patterns that will last a lifetime.
Balanced nutrition is fundamental to long-term health. Our programs emphasize the importance of incorporating different food groups into daily meals to ensure children receive all the necessary nutrients.
Sustainability is at the heart of our food choices. We highlight the importance of making sustainable choices in our food consumption to protect our planet for future generations.
There is a strong connection between the foods we eat and our emotional well-being. We explore how certain foods can enhance mood and support mental health, helping children feel their best.
Sustainability: A Vital Consideration
We have relaunched our campaign against food waste to raise awareness about the importance of reducing food waste. This initiative aims to educate pupils on the environmental impact of waste and encourage more sustainable practices.
To keep pupils engaged and informed, we provide daily updates on the previous day's food waste. This helps maintain awareness and accountability among the students.
Supporting local and regional producers is a key part of our sustainability efforts. By sourcing food locally, we reduce our environmental footprint and promote the local economy.
Seasonal Tasting Tables
This term, we hosted seasonal tasting tables featuring a variety of vegetables such as pumpkin, courgettes, and beetroot. These events introduce pupils to diverse flavors and textures, encouraging them to expand their palates and appreciate seasonal produce.
Food Activities
We will continue to celebrate Cultural Days, offering pupils the chance to experience new flavors and healthy recipes from different cultures. This fosters an appreciation for global cuisine and the nutritional benefits it offers.
Food is also about enjoyment, and our Treats Days provide a balance of fun and health. Pupils can indulge in occasional treats while learning about moderation and making healthier choices.
We value our pupils' opinions and regularly ask them for feedback on what they would like to see on the menu. This ensures that our food offerings are both enjoyable and nutritious.
Nutritionist Visit
Children's Mental Health Week (3-9 February)
During Children's Mental Health Week, we will place a special focus on the connection between food and mental well-being. Activities and discussions will highlight how diet can impact mental health.
Nutritionist Talk (6 February)
Ellie, our nutritionist, will visit on 6 February to talk to pupils about "Good Mood Food." She will explain how certain foods can improve mood and mental health, providing practical tips for incorporating these foods into their diets.
Throughout the week, pupils will learn about "Happy Brain Foods" — nutrient-rich foods that support a positive mental state. These lessons aim to empower children with knowledge about how their food choices can affect their emotional well-being.
We look forward to continuing our mission of fostering healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable eating habits among our pupils.
