Eleven students from 5th and 6th grade recently participated in a two-day training to become student mediators. This initiative aims to foster a peaceful school environment by allowing students to play an active role in conflict resolution.
Next week, these young mediators will visit classrooms to present the project to their peers and explain what their mission entails. Their goal is to raise awareness among their classmates about the importance of mediation and encourage them to seek their help when needed.
The mediation process will be organized as follows:
5th-grade students will intervene in conflicts among 4th-grade peers, offering their support to the younger students in resolving disputes peacefully.
6th-grade students will handle conflicts involving 5th and 6th graders, using the skills they acquired during their training to facilitate communication and find acceptable solutions for all parties involved.
During the lunch break, groups of two mediators will be present in the hall near the cafeteria to manage any conflicts that arise during this time. They will be available to listen and help their peers resolve issues that may come up during these leisure moments. Additionally, they can be called upon at other times if necessary, enhancing their presence and availability within the school.
Their mission will officially begin after the holidays, and they will wear badges to be easily identifiable by all students and school staff. These badges will serve as a distinctive sign of their role as mediators, making it easier for those in need of assistance to approach them.
This initiative marks an important step in promoting a more harmonious school environment, where students are encouraged to actively participate in conflict resolution and contribute to building a climate of respect and kindness.
