This October, Year 8 students had the incredible opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Shakespeare during a semi-guided tour of his birthplace, followed by a dramatic workshop with actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the RSC Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The day began with a visit to Shakespeare's birthplace, where students explored the house where the legendary playwright was born in 1564. With a mix of historical insights and fascinating facts, the tour brought Shakespeare’s life and legacy to life, offering students a deeper understanding of his work and times.
Following the tour, the students participated in a Romeo and Juliet drama workshop, guided by professional RSC actors. The workshop allowed them to engage with the famous play in an interactive way, exploring the characters, themes, and emotions that make Shakespeare’s works so enduring. The students not only learned about performance techniques but also had the chance to perform short scenes, enhancing their appreciation of the text.
The day concluded with a behind-the-scenes tour of the RSC Theatre, where students were given a glimpse of the magic that happens backstage. They saw the set design, costume departments, and learned about the technical aspects of bringing Shakespeare’s plays to life on stage.
This unforgettable trip not only deepened the Year 8s' understanding of Shakespeare but also sparked their passion for the theatre. It was truly an experience to remember!
