The Year 9 trip to Tate Modern was a cross-curricular collaboration between the German and Art departments, designed to enhance students' understanding of both subjects.
During the visit, students explored the "Expressionists: A Story of Friendships Told Through Art" exhibition, gaining insight into the works of renowned artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, and Franz Marc. They learned about The Blue Rider group and how its members revolutionized modern art, with women artists playing a central role. Highlights included Münter’s experimental photography and Marc’s vibrant use of color, alongside Marianne Werefkin’s dramatic paintings.
Room 11 stood out for many students, where Kandinsky’s abstract paintings were displayed with Olafur Eliasson’s light installation, Lichtdecke Kandinsky. This installation showed how light and color can transform our perception of art, providing a memorable and enriching experience for all.
